THE NORTH DEVON UNESCO WORLD BIOSPHERE RESERVE
Was the first to be designated in the UK by UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme.
 
THE RAY BOX
A voluntary effort by the NDFA, Welsh and Belgian fishers, which is an area closed to mobile fishing (trawling) for 6 months of the year to protect nursery grounds for Ray species and allows spawning to take place. This area also protects many other species.

THE WHELK BOX
A gentlemen’s agreement between local and visiting fishermen who use static and mobile gear fishing – in line with the Ray Box.

LUNDY MCZ
The UK’s first Marine Conservation Zone and No Take Zone (initially a voluntary measure). Originally put in place by the Bideford Trawlermen’s Association.

TREVOSE BOX
An EU regulated 3,600 square mile area that is closed to all EU fishing fleets between February and March each year, which protects spawning fish by means of a total fishing ban.
