National Day of Recognition and Celebration of Inshore and Small-scale Fisheries

This was hosted by the Duke of Northumberland, the Centre for Rural Economy at Newcastle University, the Association of IFCA’s and the Inshore and Small-scale Fisheries Consortium. The event brought around 20 inshore fishermen together with fisheries managers, policy makers, reps from all IFCA areas, researchers, environmental NGO’s and others, to recognise how much the role played by Small-scale fisheries, is valued in coastal communities. Our Chairman represented the NDFA at this event.

A range of speakers including from the industry, shared knowledge and experiences from across the coast on the themes of securing sustainable inshore fisheries and their management, as well as sharing examples of what works well and could be tried elsewhere.

The event also recognised the 15^th anniversary of the establishment of the IFCA’s in England.
